When the black cloud of Covid arrived at Seatac International airport, Walking Papers was down the road in Tacoma recording what would become the Light Below with t new friend Aaron Spiro. Soon Covid would turn the world upside down as well as upset any plans we had for performing our new material in front of an audience.

During lockdown everyone was doing a live stream in their underwear in front of a laptop. For a minute, due to the authenticity and awkwardness it was charming. But in our opinion not much of it sounded good. So we opted out of all that and decided we’d set up in a warehouse, have Aaron record us playing live in front of no audience, film it and give the label something to work. Unfortunately Covid put them under before we finished and here we were with this album and all this video.

Here’s why we decided this needs to exist.

Ben and I have made 6 albums together, 3 as Walking Papers, two as the Missionary Position and one as Staticland. Ben has made some ambient records and I’ve made a couple albums and an EP with Post Stardom Depression. We’re really proud of all of that but bummed that body of work doesn’t fit under the same umbrella. We thought this live album would provide a vehicle to connect the dots
